"Intellectually bankrupt" - that's the damning assessment of General
Sir Mike Jackson, the man who led British troops into the war in Iraq, on
the post-war policy of his US allies.
In excerpts released today from his new biography, he lays the blame
for the state of post-war Iraq at the door of the former US Defence
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld - branding his comment that American troops "don't
do nation building" as "nonsensical".
His comments come as US soldiers prepare to step into the breach in
Basra, where British troops are scaling down operations.
