Iraq: the Reckoning

Just watched this on Channel 4.

The guy reckons Muktadr Al Sadr is taking over from the US in Sadr city, implementing extreme Islamic law with US co operation. A US intelligence guy more or less admits this. He also goes to Basra where the same is happening. Girls who used to be able to wear jeans on the street under Saddam now cover up or loose their lives. The US are only fighting in a small area dominated by Sunni's some of whom are Al-Quaida.

He reckons the US and Brits have given up on the idea of representative democracy in Iraq, leaving the Militia's with the real power.

not really anything i can write which would be terribly insightful. Its a shame, really is. I mean, all the kerfuffle at the beginning... If you're going to fuck up at least make the effort to get it back on its feet.

I know. 2000 Americans died to turn Iraq into an Islamic state. They are not going to be happy when they find out.

Doesn't take much peering through the fog, to see this.

R+B, do post some links to your favourite milblogs anytime.

I read a lot of milblogs and, apart from the odd few, most of them wouldn't have either the perceptiveness or the right vantage point to make any observations like that.

That guy "Beautiful Atrocities" has a pretty definitive list of milblogs.
