I heard about this last week, its strange. I think he may well have personal issues that remain unresolved. I don't really know what he would learn "deep undercover" with a bunch of muslims anyway that he didn't know beforehand. He probably spent his time learning to pray, fast, and do wudhu...hardly brilliant book material. I think he just got bored, because if you don't believe I would imagine the actions in isolation would be quite dull!
