LIVE8

How old everyone in the audience looks... How terrifying everyones live performances are... How straight and business like all the British bands look... Elton John with Pete Doherty.. Razorlite.. fucking Travis.. Put your hands together!..Everyone clap!..and then...

SNOOP DOGG.

How can a rapper be the best live act in such a class of 2005? Amazing stuff.

Messages flashing up include:

WE DON’T WANT YOUR MONEY WE WANT YOU
THIS IS THE WEEK WHEN POVERTY CAN BE BEATEN
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Protest completely co-opted by the mainstream. The strangest thing on that note was Sting's performance of "Every breath you take". Put together with pictures of the G8 leaders it came across unmistakably as a threat.

"Every breath you take, we'll be watching you" sang Sting.

Madonna has been the only other performer of note so far.

“Do you want to start a revolution?” she asked.

I’m currently still mid-show waiting for the reformation of the legendary Pink Floyd. Did they split before the last Live aid? I think so. Can’t remember. Anyway, next year extreme poverty will be history, so they can bring on all the tepid live acts they can get their hands on as far as I am concerned. Put your hands in the air!!! WOOOO!!!

The best moment for me apart from Snoop Dogg live was hearing the comfortably gay George Michael (who didn't perfom) relating how he had to push his way through "the Dogg's" beefy security to shake his hand. I'd like to have filmed the exchanges in that conversation.
