GODBLOGS

via Angie at the QCA

What would Jesus blog?

That and other pressing questions drew 135 Christians to Southern California this weekend for a national conference billed as the first-ever for "God bloggers," a growing community of online writers who exchange information and analyze current events from a Christian perspective...

At one well-attended workshop -- "When Non-Christians Read Your Blog" -- Biola University professor Timothy Muehlhoff gave instructions on writing about faith without alienating nonbelievers. He stressed that God blogging has the potential to be a "train wreck" because done wrong it can reinforce stereotypes of evangelical Christians as angry and close-minded "pit bulls of the culture wars."

"As Christians today we are embroiled in the argument culture and we have forgotten this one thing: 'Blessed are the peacemakers.'," he said. "Wouldn't it be nice if we could say we brought a level of civility back to the conversation?"

I haven't met an angry or closed minded christian for a long while in real life or in cyberspace.

I had a look at evangelical outpost. It seems to be mainly concerned with investment advice. There is also a piece about whether christians should "take a stand against" Halloween.

I remember our pastor used to preach that people have "Forgotten the real meaning of Christmas." Its not true. Christmas was a totally pagan festival about eating, drinking and giving presents before christianity usurped it and it was usurped deliberately.

It has just returned to its original pre-christian flavour naturaly. Easter is the same. Not that I am against christians having their own festivals. If they really want to stand separate they should change the date of Christmas and Easter though. Thats what I would do.

I wonder what they'd think of God is NOT an asshole?

It pretty much flies under the radar, which is probably a good thing. Sometimes I wonder if my counterinstinctual tactic --of striving to piss everybody off-- is a good one?

I have an abiding respect for the sacred, yet something in me says the diabolical is gaining ground, and desperate measures must be taken to encourage some people to dig deeper into their spiritual selves.

You touch on some interesting themes, Dave.

What would you change the dates to Dave?

yeah, we should give america back to native americans too.

and the world should pay reparations to blacks and jews too.

absolutely. Striving to piss everyone off? You should definately write for Socialistwanker!
We piss everyone off too including each other.

I think the desperate measures for people to dig deeper into their spiritual selves might simply just involve people talking to each other.

It upsets me that I can talk to Abu Hamza and crew, all my Republican buddies and christians who pass by here- everyone seems OK people yet so much shit is going down between people.

Its desperate, I could cry.

Anonymous- I wouldn't change the dates, I was just saying that christians should if they want to separate themselves from pagan festivals like halloween etc.

I don't mind or judge what christians do, or blame them for the shocking behaviour of the church in the middle ages. It was a long time ago.

Tequilita- I saw a program about paying reparations to blacks. It didn't seem so far fetched from watching it.

Apparently they paid reparations to slaving company owners but of course not the slaves.

There are always a few people who are opposed to Halloween for religious reasons, since at least the 1950s. They fuss a bit, are ignored, and everyone is happy. The Halloween aprty poopers I find most amusing are guys like this from the Independent:

Yes, absolutely, Dave. Just speaking to one another, in honesty and candor...without devious agendas or attachment to outcomes. That would go a long way toward healing things.

A big qualification.

Nice one guys. Thaks to everyone for your comments. Fantastic stuff as usual.

R+B Christmas music - AAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

Thats the main thing I hate about Christmas. If I get enough cash together I hope to get somewhere where Christmas doesn't exist in time to miss it!

XMas pisses me off too.

We have forgotten the new meaning of XMas.

I'm just generally pissed off, but I like Elvis' 'Blue Christmas'.

And Lennon's 'And So This is Christmas'.

The "Holidays" are a source of serious dread, I'm glad some can enjoy them. I used to drink eggnog to get me through, but my liver is teetering.
