AHHHHH MOP!!!!

I've been reading Rachel and Chicken Yoghurt's reactions to the election of Boris as Mayor. I'm very unfussed. If I thought it would make any difference who was Mayor of London I suppose I would have voted. As I was half heartedly running a campaign for Gay Leik on this blog, maybe I should have registered. Obviously I'd love to see London grind to a halt with Boris on the steps of city hall bumbling. It may yet happen. I can't see why no one voted for Gay Leik as he was obviously the best person to run London, but- you know, fuck 'em.

I just get the impression people are a bit bland at the moment around here. Wake me up when something is happening, particularly if anyone wants to do anything about stopping terrorism. Meanwhile check out Snoop Dogg's new single- this is fucking gold dust.

In Rishikesh where I first met Mr Camel I was hanging out with two Australian chicks who were complaining about getting over sensualised massages from Old Indian guys who were conning them they were enlightened. The conversation widened into song lyrics which we thought sounded enlightened. One of the girls mentioned Whitney's

I believe that children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way...

I thought everything with a vocoder in it was enlightened

COME ON GAY LEIK!

Bloody third place? What is that about? Come on London. He's tough on crime. He's gay and he's running the London marathon. What do you fucking want? Blood? Come on. Gay people know how to party. Vote for Brian. You know it makes sense.

LIFE OF BRIAN

...Whenever I went out on night patrol with one particular pandacar driver, the first stop was the "tube station" - the off-licence.

We would buy a couple of "tubes" of Foster's lager which we stowed under the front passenger seat. We would wait for a lull, go to Kentucky Fried Chicken and then sit in the car eating and drinking lager.

In those days the unofficial policy was to try to avoid arresting people for drink-driving - because police were drink-driving themselves...

There is too much wisdom here to quote check it out yourself.

Paddick Fan club message

Today's Evening Standard has a fantastic write up of the first televised debate
between the three main contenders for Mayor of London, which will be shown on
ITV1 at 11.05pm tonight (Thursday).

The Evening Standard said of Brian:
"Lib-Dem rival Brian Paddick looked and sounded the part."

And they said of the debate:
"Much remains to play for - and from this initial skirmish, it's going to be
hell of a battle. But we may just have seen the first signs of the end of the
Livingstone era."

UPDATE: I watched the debate, run by an air headed Blue Peter presenter. Brian Paddick positively shone under questioning. A hostile Black conservative woman asked him why he favoured letting murderers and rapists into the classroom, he replied with a lovely story about having met someone who had done twenty years for murder, converted to Christianity inside and was desperate to stop kids wasting twenty years as he had done.

It was just the right story for the woman. You could see her face visibly soften and Brian's eyes sparkle as he smiled back. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it in politics since... I can remember.

He defended his policy of targeting dealers or crack and heroin instead of personal use cannabis. Even red Ken looked impressed. When it came to his turn he struggled with an audience hostile because he's already mayor and so the focus of peoples gripes. I didn't sit around and watch Boris Johnson for more than two minutes. He seemed like a spoilt kid in comparison to the other two.

Bloody hell. I might even register to vote. I've only voted once in my life when |I was 18. What difference would Brian make? I would imagine an openly gay Mayor might be divisive amongst Muslim community leaders. Ken said he and Brian would probably agree on 90% of the issues, which the lib dems in the audience applauded. Fascinating.

HAJJ'S PLACE

OK. I just got back from Hajj's place where I got to see Channel 4's dispatches programme on Extraordinary rendition. Very good stuff anchored by Andrew Gilligan. I also heard from Hajj that two ex-attendee's of Finsbury park mosque have been arrested. A couple of Algerians they want to deport but I'm still trying to work out which ones. He went into more detail about the centrality of his house to "fundamental" Islam.

"al-Faisal used to call this his second home."

Hamza had been round, all the neighbours know Hajj well.

"Meetings with these people and up to sixty people happened here all the time for years. This is a dawa house."

The Police have never, ever questioned Hajj once about anything.

"Someone drew the curtain once. I said brother why do you draw the curtain? My house is open, the door is open. Nothing in here is secret. If anyone has secrets, take them somewhere else."

After the film I watched Yvonne Ridley on the Islamic channel for a bit. I told Hajj I had met her once but she didn't seem to like me very much. He said that all of them had thought something bad about me when they had first seen me.

"What- you thought I was MI-5?"

"Worse."

"A Satan worshipper?"

"Worse. I don't want to say and insult you..."

"Ahhh... You thought I was gay because of the bones in my ears..."

"Yes. That was the discussion we had. Its not because of what you look like in itself..."

"And being gay is worse than worshipping Satan?"

"Do you think homosexuals are naturally born that way?"

"Yes. I think so." I said. "Although I am not gay myself, I agree with the rights of gays and lesbians who live here in peace. The world is over populated anyway..."

"So how would God make something that isn't perfect?"

It is hard talking to someone with a God concept when I don't have one. Its strange talking in such a peacable manner about such emotive things. Hajj has taken a step back from all things "fundamental" including, I fear further participation in my filming. If I could I'd have a camera on him 24/7 and it wouldn't be for security reasons. I want to film him on his step-machine.

GAY

Nothing against gay people myself, not into the idea but it could be said that I am in touch with my "feminine side". So this sort of thing disturbs me. Not a society I would want. The second time I ever spoke to Abu Abdullah he quoted me a passage from the Bible which said homosexuals should be put to death. That disturbed me, but also made me wonder why we are not being terrorised by Christian fundamentalists as the Bible seems to be way more bloodthirsty than the Koran.

Peter Tatchell, the leader of OutRage; Brett Lock its campaign coordinator; and Aaron Saeed, the organization's spokesperson on Muslim affairs, have been warned they will be murdered, Tatchell said Monday.

In a statement Tatchell said that they have been told they are on a "hit list" and are going to be "beheaded" and "chopped up", in accordance with "Islamic law".

For the record, when I asked Abdullah if he advocated gay bashing he was really hurt.I don't doubt that Peter Tatchell has this type of problem with some of the Muslim community, but I get the impression that Abdullah lives in quite a closed community and doesn't spend a lot of his time thinking about how to kill gay people.

Brian Paddick

One of the strange things of note about yesterday was seeing "Deputy Assistant Commissioner" Brian Paddick in the TV studios fielding questions for the Police. Is that the Brian Paddick? As in gay Brian, the tokers friend? I didn't even realise he had been reinstated.

"Deputy Assistant Commissioner" well I never.

GAY LINCOLN

No, this is not a cheap insult to the Americans who come this way...

When Abraham was in his twenties, a broke lawyer born in a log cabin, he met Speed, an 18-year old shopkeeper. Speed offered to share a room – and a bed – with Abe. This wasn’t uncommon in the 1830s, when only the rich could afford a bed of their own. But sharing would be a transitory, uncomfortable alliance for a few months – except with Abe and Joshua. They shared for four years, a fact that even a 1950s biographer noted “bordered on impropriety.”
